1/8/2024

Comments

Wondering if your home or business requires partial or complete repiping? Weak water pressure, slow appliance refills, or discolored water could be telltale signs. If your property has galvanized pipes, rust and debris accumulation may lead to contaminated drinking water. Brown water, unpleasant odors, and reduced pressure indicate deteriorating galvanized pipes, posing potential health hazards to your family or customers. Moreover, leaks in these pipes can result in mold growth, structural damage, and costly repairs.

If you suspect these issues in your building, contact All Connect Plumbing today for assistance. Repiping, whether partial or complete, is a significant endeavor but essential for your safety and property's integrity. Severely corroded pipes not only present unpleasant conditions but also pose health risks. Addressing corroded and leaking pipes promptly can prevent further damage and avoid hefty repair bills associated with a deteriorating structure.

Let us efficiently and safely handle your plumbing concerns. Reach out to us via phone or email to request a quote or discuss your home repiping needs in the Reno Sparks area. Trust All Connect Plumbing to ensure the health and integrity of your property's plumbing system.

Holiday Plumbing Emergencies | Reno/Sparks Plumbing

1/2/2024

Comments

Holiday season means family and friends visiting, cooking extravaganzas, last minute shopping and, as much as we try to avoid it, stress. The last thing you need on your hands this holiday season is a plumbing emergency. Here at All Connect Plumbing, we know this is the time of year that your home is taxed to the max. We are coming upon the most intense use of your home plumbing of the year. Between the buzz of activity in the kitchen and guests staying over, your sinks, toilets, showers, dishwashers, garbage disposals and hot water heaters will be working overtime. We're giving you some holiday plumbing tips to keep the holidays moving along as smoothly as possible:

  • Be aware of what you flush! One of the most common emergencies around the holidays are clogged toilets. Avoid flushing baby wipes, feminine napkins and facial tissues. Encourage guests to not flush these items by keeping a waste basket in the bathroom.
  • Be nice to your garbage disposal. Another common emergency during the holidays is a broken garbage disposal. This is primarily caused by putting too much food and the wrong kind of food down a disposal that is not built to handle such a large load. You can avoid this by cutting larger pieces of food before putting them into the disposal and also not putting the following foods down the disposal:  rice or pasta, celery, egg shells, potato peels, fruit pits, gravy, bones, onion skins, grease or oil.
  • Turn up your water heater, but not too hot! You can help prepare for an overloading of your hot water supply by turning up the heat. However, make sure you do not exceed 120 degrees and turn it back down to normal after your guests leave to conserve energy.
Finally, we all know that prevention is the best method to avoid catastrophe. Here at All Connect Plumbing we conduct plumbing inspections to ensure that your system will be running smoothly. For such an inspection, contact us. As always, our 23.5/7 hour emergency services are available to you should a holiday disaster occur. Simply call the number at the top of the page!

Creating The Perfect Home Workspace

12/30/2023

Picture
Running your business from your home offers a number of advantages. You’ll have flexibility, a healthy work-life balance, and you’ll save on commuting and commercial rental space. As you’re developing your business plan and operational strategy, consider what your workspace needs will look like today and in the future and design your home office with your growth potential in mind.

Getting Started

If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to get a business license, determine an appropriate incorporation status, draft a business plan and a marketing strategy, start developing your brand, and set up an invoicing process. This includes making sure you get paid on time by giving customers a variety of payment options and keeping billing terms easy to understand. You can create branded invoices with an invoice generator. Simply download a template and customize with your own fonts, logo, and colors.

Redesigning Existing Workspace

The fastest way to get a home business up and running is to utilize your existing home work space as-is. Ideally, you’ll want office space with a door for privacy that’s removed from household traffic. You’ll be spending a lot of time in your office, so make it a comfortable environment. Paint the walls a calming color, add live plants and up-lighting, and install a workstation that’s comfortable and ergonomically sound. If you’ll be seeing clients in your office, you’ll want space for them to sit comfortably. Even though it’s a home office, it shouldn’t look like a spare bedroom you’re working from. Put diplomas and awards on the walls and don’t allow the space to be shared - it’s not a professional look for clients to see a laundry basket in the background of a Zoom call.

Augmenting Your Space

If you have the ability to build on to or renovate your home to accommodate your growing business, it can be a worthwhile investment that adds to the appraised value of your property. You might build an entirely separate structure, like a casita, or add an office on to your home’s footprint. In this case, consider having an exterior entrance so you can “leave” the house to go to work and “leave” the office to go home. Not only is this more private and professional, according to Entrepreneur, but the delineation between work and home can also be good for your mental health. Since this will be a big undertaking, you’ll want to ensure you get several construction quotes from respected contractors, and make sure you’re building in the features your business needs for today and tomorrow.

Buying A New Home

If your business is growing and your family is growing, you might consider buying a larger home altogether. Consider all of your needs - how close are you to quality schools? Does your spouse commute to work and need to be close to a highway corridor?  How much home can you afford? You’ll want something with an established home office space, or a house that’s large enough to easily morph existing space into an office. According to UpNest, you can start your search online, but an experienced real estate agent can be an asset in helping you find a house that fits your specific needs.

A home-based office is a great way to start or grow a business venture, and the best thing - any expenses associated with your home workspace are tax-deductible, so keep good records, establish a process for invoicing, and enlist the help of an accountant when it’s filing time.

Reno Plumbing Drain Tips

12/28/2023

We all rely on drains in our homes, whether they're in the kitchen or bathroom, for daily use. Therefore, it's crucial to maintain them properly. Here are some tips to help you care for your drains:
  1. Drain Stoppers: Invest in kitchen sink or shower stoppers to prevent clogs. These stoppers are essential for keeping food scraps, debris, and hair from entering your drains. You can easily find them at local hardware stores in Reno.
  2. Disposers: While garbage disposals can handle biodegradable food waste, they're not designed to process everything. Avoid dumping non-food items like plastic, glass, or metal down the disposal, as they can damage your drain system. Stick to disposing of food waste only to keep your drains functioning smoothly.
By following these simple tips, you can maintain the health and efficiency of your drains, ensuring they remain clear and clog-free. Taking proactive measures to care for your drains can prevent costly plumbing issues down the line and keep your home running smoothly.

Reno Plumbing Water Maintenance Tips

12/27/2023

Water is essential to our daily lives, but it can also cause issues if not managed properly. Here are some important tips to ensure your household water doesn't lead to problems:
  1. Check Water Pressure: Regularly monitor your water pressure to catch any sudden spikes that may indicate a leak. Even if you're not aware of a leak, abnormal water pressure can be a sign of underlying issues that need attention.
  2. Watch for Leaks: Leaks are a common household problem that shouldn't be ignored. A seemingly innocent dripping faucet can lead to more significant issues over time if left unaddressed. Be proactive in fixing leaks to prevent water damage and save on your water bill.
  3. Toilet Usage: Avoid using your toilet as a trash can. Flushing items other than toilet paper can lead to serious plumbing issues. Items like diapers, cotton balls, and makeup tissues don't break down easily and can cause clogs and backups. Keeping your toilet free from non-flushable items helps maintain proper function and prevents costly repairs.

By following these tips, you can ensure that your household water remains problem-free and continues to serve your needs efficiently. Regular maintenance and responsible water usage are key to avoiding plumbing issues and conserving water resources.

All Connect Plumbing Home Savings

12/20/2023

Picture
Save money and protect our natural resource at the same time! Water bills can make up a large chunk of your monthly expenses, but with a conscious effort you can choose to reduce that cost to half or less.

Imagine using all of the water that is wasted while your shower is warming up, or if you could see the amount of water you actually used compared to the water wasted. Get the most out of Laundry and Dish Washing by waiting for full loads of laundry or dishes. Only keep the faucet on when you need it! You can also do things differently outside.

When deciding on a garden try to choose a native plant that doesn't require that much water. If watering your lawn make sure to do it in the morning and preferably when there is little to no wind. Rain barrels that collect rain water for you always an easy way to save.

Planning Plumbing Needs

12/19/2023

Picture
The adage "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" rings true not only for physical health but also for the health of your plumbing system. Often, we overlook the importance of the water delivery and disposal systems in our homes and businesses until a problem arises. However, issues such as a dripping faucet or a continuously running toilet can escalate from minor annoyances to major headaches if left unattended.

Consider all the appliances and fixtures that rely on properly functioning plumbing: laundry machines, dishwashers, water heaters, toilets, faucets, showerheads, refrigerator ice makers, and water softeners, to name a few. Any malfunction in these components can lead to increased utility bills and may eventually necessitate costly replacements. Moreover, ensuring that water flows smoothly down drains without clogging is crucial to preventing overflow and water damage.

Rather than waiting for a plumbing emergency to occur, why not take proactive steps to prevent future headaches? Scheduling an inexpensive whole-house maintenance check on your plumbing system can help identify and address potential issues before they escalate into costly repair bills. By investing in preventative maintenance now, you can save yourself time, money, and stress in the long run.

Don't wait until a minor plumbing issue becomes a major problem. Contact us today to schedule a maintenance check and safeguard the health and functionality of your plumbing system. Trust us to keep your water flowing smoothly and your home or business running efficiently.
